The Italian
Adjoining the beautiful St Paul’s Cathedral, The Italian occupies a prominent city centre location. The setting is smart but by no means oppressive with light wood and white linen prevailing. The result is a bright and airy interior in which one immediately feels welcome, featuring an upper mezzanine level in which diners can relax over a carefully prepared meal whilst watching the busy world go by.
Since opening in October 2002 the restaurant has grown in popularity to the point where booking is essential. The ethos is on the freshest and best local produce, carefully prepared and cooked with Italian flair. This can perhaps be best seen in The Italian’s meat dishes which take the finest Aberdeen Angus beef and cook them in a Mediterranean style which both compliments and brings out the quality of the product. The brigade of Italian chefs have a commitment to quality, simple food cooked to order and it is for this reason that the restaurant has become renowned as the best in the city.
The Italian has also received "Eating Place of the Year" for the second year running at the Dundee Retail Awards 2007. The event, hosted by TV presenter, journalist and broadcaster Lorraine Kelly, was the climax to months of nominations by city centre businesses, shortlisting by a panel of impartial judges and 11 days of public voting by City of Discovery Shoppers and the Evening Telegraph readership - truly making them the people's awards.
